Osprey

Osprey Farpoint 40

40L men’s travel pack with a LightWire frame. Osprey lists about 3.49 lb / 1.58 kg and a $185 starting list on osprey.com.

Why we recommend it

Lighter than most 40L travel packs on our gear list, with a named lifetime repair program (All Mighty Guarantee) and published 22 × 14 × 9 in geometry on Osprey’s product page.

Who it fits

  • Solo backpacker. One person, one bag, grams and a budget you can still spend on the ticket.
  • Couple. Two people sharing cubes, quiet on the plane, and a bag each that still fits the overhead.
  • Young family. Car seats, a stroller, snacks, and one extra pair of hands for the day bag.

Carry-on backpacks

Farpoint 40 is a travel bag that carries like a backpacking pack: adjustable torso, LightWire frame, hipbelt you can stow when you check it.

The official table we cited lists 40 L, 22 × 14 × 9 in, and 3.486 lb. Those dimensions match the common U.S. domestic carry-on story the brand tells. A 16 in laptop sleeve and an external toiletry pocket are on the same page.

Shortlist reason: published weight well under the 45L canvas tanks, plus a written lifetime repair program.
