This list packs a 48-hour city weekend into one bag, organized by the job each item does. A weekend in a city is three sleeps if you are unlucky and two if you planned. Pack for walking, one nicer room, and weather you cannot argue with.

The list

Carry: one personal-item or under-seat bag. See carry-on backpacks if you refuse a roller.
Clothes: two walking outfits, one evening shirt or dress layer, underwear for nights + 1, socks for days + 1.
Weather: a packable shell; cities lie about rain.
Work: laptop in a sleeve the bag actually claims to fit. Charger in a tech pouch.
Sleep: if the inbound is a red-eye, see plane sleep.
Toiletries: travel bottles at or under 100 ml.
Sound: ANC headphones if the train is a character.
